This week, This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl wished a very happy 60th birthday to the world's first Dana & Carl fan, David Murray! Our first fan? Yeah, Dave's been with us since long before even TIRnRR itself, commencing with the very first Dana & Carl show--the pilot episode of We're Your Friends For Now on WNMA--waaaaaay back in January of 1992. To celebrate, we let Dave come into the studio and take control. Dana was off on a pilgrimage to the Church Of Ramones in Queens (with a side trip to the Church Of Satchmo), but I managed to keep the levels steady and the board intact. And Dave? He managed to put together a hell of a show. TESTIFY, brother!
Uh, Dave? Dave? That's your cue:
Greetings from THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO WITH DANA AND CARL guest host (and sexagenarian) DAVE MURRAY. Carl and Dana graciously allowed me to celebrate my 60th birthday by letting me take my turn behind the mic (and Dana promptly took a turn south to New York City, hoping that was far enough away.)
I picked the hits that were clicked to tick (wait, I think I have that wrong....or DO I?)
Anyway, I stayed true to TIR'N'RR'S eclectic tradition with a mix of old faves like THE FLASHCUBES, THE BEATLES and...CAKE (?) and mixed in THE MAVERICKS, HEARTLESS BASTARDS, and THE BODEANS, among others. I also screwed up at a couple of times but who's counting? Hopefully just me.
We got lots of comments (including, "what's with all the horn songs?") and I had myself a ball while Carl did his best Dr. Octopus impression trying to run the board, run the CD players, and run the Facebooky thing, while managing not to run from the studio, screaming.
Thanks again to Carl and Dana, thank you for reading (and listening) and I plan to be back for my 120th birthday and we can do it all again, except using robots. That is, unless our AI overlords prohibit it.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Spark Syracuse, the near-future FM radio home of Dana & Carl, is in dire need of a cash influx to achieve its lofty goal of being the present-day FM radio home of Dana & Carl. It's been a while since we hit you all up for support, but starting last week, the time has come to whip out the ol' tin cup again. Your TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION can help this and other fine Westcott Radio programs find a second home on Syracuse's terrestrial airwaves: Spark! at WSPJ, 93.5 and 103.3 FM. We've measured the drapes. Drapes cost money. Help? http://sparksyracuse.org/support/. You da MAN! Or, you da MA'AM, as the case may be. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams live every Sunday night from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
