THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO # 850
850 shows. When Dana and I started This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio at the end of 1998, I doubt that either of us really thought we could last this long. Maybe we can credit our relative longevity to sheer belligerence, but it's just as likely that we keep doing this--whatever this is--because we believe in it. As we age, as our bodies remind us that we're nowhere near as young as we think we used to be, and as the midnight hour becomes an increasingly daunting target, the music still sustains us. This is fun. This is us. This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio.
For the ol' 8-5-0, our original plan was to have our pal Dave Murray program the whole thing, as a tribute to the wonder of us. Dave's been a fan ever since the first Dana & Carl radio collaboration We're Your Friends For Now back in 1992, and we were delighted when he won the drawing to program our 850th show. Alas, a scheduling conflict prohibited Dave from joining us in the studio on Sunday, but Dave still stepped up with an amazing selection of 16 cool tracks (plus one bonus track, in memory of the late Ron Glass). Dave gave us the tracks, the order in which he wanted them played, and some per-track comments to share with the listeners, and then Dave asked us to fill in the blanks with some of TIRnRR's greatest hits. The result? If you're a regular listener, you already know the answer to that. If you're new here, lemme just tell ya one more time: this is, without a doubt, The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet. And we're ready for # 851.
NEXT WEEK: the long slog to--ack!--TIRnRR # 900 and beyond resumes with our last regular show of the year. IN TWO WEEKS: it's The 18th Annual This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio Christmas Show. For now, if we've told you once, we've told you 850 times: this is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week. The weekend stops HERE!
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams live on Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
