This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 855
On September 1st of this year, Syracuse's own power pop powerhouse The Flashcubes will celebrate their 40th anniversary. But they're getting the party started early--like, right now--with a brand new track they just recorded: a cover of The Monkees' classic "She," which will be on a forthcoming Monkees tribute album from the good folks at 7a Records in England. HEY! The album won't be out for a while, but I have a feeling the track is gonna get significant burn on TIRnRR over the next few months. And I'm sure we'll be talking a lot about The Flashcubes all year long.
Also new this week: Telescope, another swell new album from long-time TIRnRR Fave Rave Kelley Ryan; Girlville, a fab new girl-group sound project from Dana Countryman (represented on this week's playlist with vocal turns by other long-time TIRnRR Fave Raves Lisa Mychols and Lisa Jenio); and a new unreleased track by Tommy Gunn (aka Tommy O'Reilly of The Most and 1.4.5., singing a song he wrote about the late Norm Mattice). This is what we do on This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio: we take a bunch of great new stuff, we mix in more great stuff, old and new, and we scream into the microphone about the wonder of it all. It's foolproof. It makes great radio. And it's the only way we know how to do it.
And somehow, we've been doing it for...wait. Really? That long...?!
NEXT WEEK: Well! Way back on January 15th, 1992, Dana and I walked into the old WNMA studio on Trinity Place in Syracuse, and we pitched an idea for a new radio show. Station management apparently dug whatever the hell it was we were stammering about, so they had us record an audition show, which then went on the air that very night as the first-ever Dana & Carl radio show. On 1/15/17, two and a half decades later to the day, we celebrate with 25 YEARS OF DANA & CARL. We would be delighted if you could join us. For now, this is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams live on Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
