An infinite number of songs can each be THE greatest record ever made, as long as they take turns. I like that idea so much I'm writing a book about it. And I'm promoting that book with a weekly video series, discussing each of the book's chosen tracks one by one.
This week's video rant pounds the console on behalf of the undisputed king of rock 'n' roll Elvis Presley and his first # 1 hit, "Heartbreak Hotel" from 1956. I will concede the remote possibility that you don't already know the song, though I think you're prankin' me if you make that claim. GUARDS! Jeez, where's the freakin' security in this joint? Fine. The song is here, and my raving of its splendor and significance follows below:
All hail King Elvis I! If you dig these weekly videos, please subscribe to my YouTube channel, and spread the word all along Lonely Street and beyond. NEXT WEEK: we turn to the roots of Elvis, with WILLIE MAE "BIG MAMA" THORNTON and her forgotten original of "Hound Dog." The infinite spins on.
