Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post is a look back at a one-page comics story I wrote and drew when I was in high school, Agent 690: Man Of Action!
This was the inaugural entry in a series called He THOUGHT He Was An Artist! (Memoirs From Back At The Drawing Board), which looks back at my failed attempts to become a comics artist. The back story includes memories of high school, and a (possibly apocryphal) detail of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1971 visit to Syracuse. I've only done two full-length chapters in this series so far, and the second will be reprised in a near-future Boppin' Pop-A-Looza. There is technically a third entry, which was just a doodle about Captain America and The Batman agreeing to grab lunch after they've just saved the world:
Although not part of this series, The Jack Mystery Story is my most detailed account of wishing I could be both a writer and an artist. Beyond that, there's also the splash page that was the sole appearance of my character The Snowman, and there's a spot illustration accompanying the introductory chapters of my abandoned superhero novel Eternity Man.
I'll likely have a few more doodles to come, but let's get back to that long-ago time when a teen who wanted to be a writer also THOUGHT he was an artist. He THOUGHT He Was An Artist: Agent 690: Man Of Action! is the latest Boppin' Pop-A-Looza.TIP THE BLOGGER: CC's Tip Jar!
