Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: My 1960s...IN THE '70s!
As a follow-up to yesterday's Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: My 1960s, here's another fake TIRnRR playlist. Man, this sure is a lot less work than actually going into the studio for three hours each week. This particular rock 'n' rollus phonus balonus consists exclusively of records from the '60s that I didn't discover and embrace until I was a pre-teen and teenager in the 1970s. That period between turning ten in January of 1970 and wavin' cheery-bye to the teen years in 1980 was an incredible period of musical exploration for me, as I delved deeply into both contemporary pop music and music I'd missed as a little kid in the previous decade.
While never cutting myself off from the then-current music of the Me Decade--my ear was pretty much stapled to the radio that whole time--I realized early on that the music of the '60s was and would always remain my favorite. The four main reasons for this were John, Paul, George, and Ringo. But they were never the only the thing I loved about 1960s rock 'n' pop; my appreciation of The Beatles expanded in the '70s, but so did my appreciation of The Monkees and The Rolling Stones, filled in further by my newly-discovered interest in The Kinks, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, and Paul Revere & the Raiders, among many others. Music has no sell-by date. Any song you ain't heard before is a new song. Any song you love can remain a cherished companion for as long as you draw breath. The music of the 1960s was fresh air to me throughout the '60s and the '70s, and it still is.
