This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 900

The 900th Sunday.

If you told me in December of 1998, right before This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1, that we would still be doing this 899 shows later, I would have admired your spirit and asked for some of whatever you were drinking.

Yet here we are. This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 900.

Thank you to everyone who's ever listened, everyone who's ever helped us, everyone who's ever given us music to play, everyone who's helped this unlikely radio shindig last so long. Thanks to Jeremy Morris and Ray Gianchetti for putting out the four TIRnRR compilation CDs, and to Keith Klingensmith for keeping the first three out-of-print titles available as downloads. Thanks to Fritz Van Leaven for keeping statistical track of whatever the hell it is we've been doing. Thanks to all of you who've bought our CDs, given financial support to our cash-strapped operation, and expressed your solidarity and appreciation. Thanks to everyone on Facebook's TIR'N'RR chat group, and thanks to Elizabeth "BABY!" Racz for building that chat group in the first place. Thanks to my lovely wife Brenda for putting up with this silly operation. And thanks to Dana for coming up with the idea of a Dana & Carl show almost 26 years ago (even before TIRnRR itself), and for being the perfect ally and foil, all at the same time.

TIRnRR # 900 began with an eight-song celebration of those four This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio compilations. Fritz gave us the stats and idea for This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio A-Z, a salute to our all-time most-played artists for each letter of the alphabet. And we shuffled out, fists held high, with a random selection of a few of our greatest hits. And the long slog to TIRnRR # 1000 continues.

QUICK HEADS-UP FOR EVERYONE: Syracuse's own power pop powerhouse The Flashcubes will be heard on this Wednesday's episode of the ABC sitcom Speechless. The show airs at 8:30 pm Eastern, and we recommend you watch, record, and re-watch again. (Thanks to Nick Zeigler of The Leonards and The Forty Nineteens for the initial scoop on this, and thanks to actor John Ross Bowie for mentioning the 'Cubes!)

NEXT WEEK: # 901! IN TWO WEEKS: The 19th Annual This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio Christmas Show! Right now, if we've told you once we've told you 900 times: this is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl, Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, on the air in Syracuse on The Spark WSPJ-LP 103.3 and 93.7, and on the web at http://sparksyracuse.org/
