Our Central New York music scene has lost one of its bright lights.
We're reeling from the news that TIRnRR's long-time friend Scott Cornish has passed. His death caught everyone by surprise, coming about a week after Scott posted on Facebook that he had contracted COVID and was settling in at home to fight off its miserable effects. That was on May 30th. By the middle of this past week, Scott was gone.
I confess I'm still in a state of approaching shock. I feel like I should write something in Scott's memory...but I just feel bad, and I don't have anything of substance to say.
Well, except this: Scott Cornish loved music. Hell, Scott may have loved music more than anyone else I've ever known has loved music. It's been my great pleasure to know a lot of passionate music fans, true believers with deep and abiding affections for the essential soundtracks of their lives. Their allegiance to music is unshakeable, unquestioned.
And I still think Scott maybe loved music even more than that.
Many of Scott's friends, and even many of the talented people who made some of the music that Scott so adored, have written tributes and reminiscences to a spirit that seemed like it should have been immortal. I cede the floor to them, as we all mourn together. I raise a glass, and I crank the tunes.
Scott: I liked referring to you as Scott "King" Cornish. I never got a sense of whether you liked the nickname or thought it silly, but I tell ya: It suited you. King of music fans. Rest easy, King Cornish. We are going to miss you.
