Wednesday is my day off from retail work, which makes it my designated day to record my parts for each week's edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio and to try to get around to doing whatever else needs doing. I always run out out of Wednesday before I run out of Wednesday things to do.
| TUESDAYS...?! Man, this blogger can NOT keep track of his Wednesdays |
Busy, busy day. Didn’t have a chance to finalize this week’s playlist selections before going to bed Tuesday night, but I was able to complete that task before heading out to mundane real-world appointments in the early afternoon on Wednesday. I didn’t have to make any changes in the sections Dana and I set up on Tuesday, and the undrafted tracks I needed to fill in my half of the bonus set fell into place with relative ease. I'll have to do the playlist's track annotations some time before Sunday night.
Out the door, in the car, and on the highway before noon, with no time to record my parts of the radio show before leaving. I did figure I might have some in-between time at some point while I was out; I brought the printed playlist with me, and I took that presumed in-between time when it occurred, sitting in my parked car to bark radio patter and back-announcements into my iPhone. Success! And a need for a couple of cookies, purchased at Witty Wicks. DJs get hungry, man.
When I got home late afternoon, Brenda suggested moving some fried haddock and potato knishes from freezer to oven, baking for thirty minutes at 375 degrees. Before and after our dinner, I completed my part of the show-makin' process, with only one back-announcement in need of a re-do (to correct how I garbled the title of a new album). I'm still having difficulty with my digital music files, but the show as a whole finally did transfer successfully to Dana via Dropbox.
After all of the above, plus some correspondence that needed appropriate corresponding, I made a late trip to Comix Zone. As I walked into the store, Comix Zone enforcer Mike greeted me by saying, "You're late." "Busy day," I replied, and scooped up my trio of freshly-published funnybooks: Ancestral Recall # 2, Amazing Spider-Man # 11 (# 975 legacy numbering), and Batman # 1.
Um...not the famous one. I do have a couple of reprints of the 1940 Batman # 1. But that's old stuff! This one's new.
That was pretty much the day. I didn't have time to write or plan any creative stuff (other than the radio show), though I've been jotting down bits of lyrics I'm concocting for possible use in my eventual novel Meet The Frantiks! On Tuesday, I shut down the audiobook version of The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1), which just wasn't an acceptable product; I don't see how the economic factors will ever work out to make a proper audiobook practical. Also on Tuesday, this blog accrued its 1,800,00th view--that's one million plus eight-hundred thousand--inching closer to the two million mark and lending an illusion of credence to the crazy idea that someone out there really is seeing whatever it is I'm doing. They're all bots, sure, but they're bots with impeccable taste.
And that very same Tuesday also involved a flurry of emails and Facebook messages regarding the possibility of an unplanned but kind of exciting fourth and final digital single from my various-artists labor o' love Make Something Happen! A Tribute To The Flashcubes. My work's done here, so I'm just an observer. Still, it's a thrill to see this buzz of activity.
But my activity for this week's Wednesday has buzzed its poor self out. Thursday awaits. And next week will bring the possibilities of yet another Wednesday.

I compiled a various-artists tribute album called Make Something Happen! A Tribute To The Flashcubes, and it's pretty damned good; you can read about it here and order it here. My new book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1) is now available, and you can order an autographed copy here. You can still get my previous book Gabba Gabba Hey! A Conversation With The Ramones from publisher Rare Bird Books, OR an autographed copy here. If you like the books, please consider leaving a rating and/or review at the usual online resources.
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl airs Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, on the air in Syracuse at SPARK! WSPJ 103.3 and 93.7 FM, streaming at SPARK stream and on the Radio Garden app as WESTCOTT RADIO. You can read about our history here.
