POP-A-LOOZA: The Comic Book Telephone Pitches, Part 2 (starring THE MONKEES)

Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post looks back on the time I wanted to write a comic book biography of the Monkees: "Unfinished And Abandoned: The Comic Book Telephone Pitches, Part 2."

Over a span of decades, I have written a ton of stuff about the Monkees, here and elsewhere. The Monkees will be included in my long-threatened book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1), with a chapter about "Porpoise Song (Theme From Head)" and an interlude called "The Monkees Play Their Own Instruments." The closest I've come to writing a Monkees comic book story was my collection of thoughts about an imaginary Batman Meets The Monkees project. As a tangent to the idea of Monkees fiction, I guess we can mention my hypothetical speech inducting the Monkees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

But today, we consider my stillborn idea to tell the stories of Micky, Davy, Peter, and Michael in comic book form. My early '90s telephone pitch for a Monkees comic book is the subject of the latest Boppin' Pop-A-Looza.
