Like the Superman-Batman team-ups in old issues of World's Finest Comics, each edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl presents your two favorite heroes in one adventure together. While I am not the world's greatest detective, and Dana can't leap tall buildings in a single bound (at least not as far as I'm aware), we do have a radio show. That may not qualify as superheroics, but it does serve the greater good. Plus: pop songs!
And, like the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, Dana and I work together in our crusade. With rare exception (like the annual Dana's Funky Soul Pit), each week's playlist is the result of two separate forces combined as one. Dana can do a terrific solo show, and I can do a terrific solo show; neither would be quite the same as This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl.
I think that specific dynamic helps to create a better radio show. Dana plays some songs I might never think of playing. I play some songs Dana might never think of playing. And, sometimes, one of us plays a song or artist the other one would have played if he'd gotten around to it. The result is seamless and compelling. World's Finest. The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet.
Justice is served. I'm working on my Batarang skills. Dana's been practicing the art of lowering his glasses and winking at the reader. We've got a radio show. The city is safe. Up, up and away. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
