COMIC BOOK COVER GALLERY: Some '60s, '70s, and '80s series I'd like to see published in collected editions

Collected editions! Today's gallery gathers representative covers from a number of '60s, '70s, and '80s series I'd like to see preserved in the form of attractively-priced trade paperbacks. I hit the same subject in this post from 2024, but now let's expand it into its own Comic Book Cover Gallery.

We must mention a few notes before we proceed. First, I do know that some of these properties (including E-Man and Zot!) have been collected previously; the E-Man book is effectively out of print, and the Zot! book only includes the black and white issues. My list is dominated by DC Comics IPs, because I think Marvel has already accomplished some deep dives into its archives; the current DC Finest series seems poised to address that imbalance.

I have some wished-for collections that fall outside the parameters of this gallery. I'd love to see a collection of the Charlton Comics science-fiction Western Wander (written by Denny O'Neil and go'geously illustrated by Jim Aparo), which ran as a back-up strip in The Cheyenne Kid from 1968 to 1971, but I didn't own any of those comics, and even if I did, Wander wasn't a cover feature. Collections of Sheldon Mayer's out-of-time-frame 1940s Scribbly And The Red Tornado strips from All-American Comics and Jim Hanley's '70s fanzine superhero Goodguy would be terrific subjects for trade editions.

Finally, I confess I wouldn't necessarily buy each of these proposed trades if they came to be. Yeah, fat lotta help I am. But I would be first in line for Blackhawk, Crossfire, DNAgents, and E-Man (and Goodguy, Scribbly And The Red Tornado, and Wander), and I would almost certainly replace my black-and-white Zot! book with a comprehensive collection. The 'Mazing Man and Adventures Of Jerry Lewis would be pretty sure bets, and everything else would at least be a contender.

As always, we'll be sticking exclusively to the '60s, '70s, and '80s era of acquisition I've established for these galleries. Today's selections include books I bought new, back issues I acquired after the fact (but within the timeline), and B-stock contraband originally purchased without their covers. These aren't actual photos of comics in my collection; most images are courtesy of the Grand Comics Database, which is grand indeed. But I did have each and every one of 'em at some point in time.

Ain't gonna happen. Cross-licensing nightmare with DC, Marvel, The Lone Ranger, and Tarzan. The Batman story will be reprinted by DC in 2027
