About Me

My photo

I'm the co-host of THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO with Dana & Carl (Sunday nights, 9 to Midnight Eastern, www.westcottradio.org).  As a freelance writer, I contributed to Goldmine magazine from 1986-2006, wrote liner notes for Rhino Records' compilation CD Poptopia!  Power Pop Classics Of The '90s, and for releases by The Flashcubes, The Finkers, Screen Test, 1.4.5., and Jack "Penetrator" Lipton.  I contributed to the books Bubblegum Music Is The Naked Truth, Shake Some Action, Lost In The Grooves, and MusicHound Rock, and to DISCoveries, Amazing Heroes, The Comics Buyer's Guide, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Comics Collector, The Buffalo News, and The Syracuse New Times.  I also wrote the liner notes for the four THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO compilation CDs, because, well, who could stop me?  My standing offer to write liner notes for a Bay City Rollers compilation has remained criminally ignored.  Still intend to write and sell a Batman story someday.

You have TWO irresistible Dana & Carl options tonight.  If you're in the Syracuse area, come see us as the hosts of BRIGHT LIGHTS! The Syracuse New Wave Rock 'n' Roll Reunion, which takes place from 7 pm sharp until around Midnight at Funk 'N Waffles on South Clinton Street in Syracuse.  Like Boss Vic Koss in That Thing You Do! (the Greatest Movie Ever Made)...well, we don't have The Hollyhocks, nor The Vicksburgs, nor even Lake Erie's own Oneders.  But we do have Tom Kenny, The Flashcubes, Screen Test, The Trend, The Dead Ducks, Maura & the Bright Lights, and a tribute to Norm Mattice, performed by The Richards.  Doors open at 6, with an introductory soundtrack of rockin' pop 'n' punk dance music (as we define it) provided by This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio.  Details?  Glad you asked: http://carlcafarelli.blogspot.com/2016/06/bright-lights-press-release.html  This will be more fun than anything ever, so you oughtta be there.

Wait.  You're not in Syracuse tonight?!  Well, that stinks.  But we also want you to be entertained, ya big ol' pop music fan, you.  So, for much of the same time that Dana & Carl are shouting at people from the stage at Funk 'N Waffles, we'll also be shouting at you on the radio.  Technology!  The magic of science!  The banality of studio time-shifting, redeemed by us just bein' so damned cute! We have the TIRnRR debut of Squeegee, and lotsa cool tunes from our lovely and talented Featured Act, The Bangles!  See us live! Hear us on the radio! See us live, and then hear us on the radio! This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams [cough] "live" from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
