This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 833
I am Spartacus. Dana's Spartacus, too.
Last night, we were the hosts of BRIGHT LIGHTS! The Syracuse New Wave Rock 'n' Roll Reunion, an incredible night of live rock 'n' roll with Tom Kenny, The Flashcubes, The Trend, The Dead Ducks, Maura & the Bright Lights, and a tribute to Norm Mattice, performed by The Richards. Even my usual supply of convenient superlatives fails me in trying to describe the sheer rush that's still buzzin' about my noggin this contented morning after the giddy night before. I'll try to write something coherent--HA! I say HA!!--about BRIGHT LIGHTS! within the next day or two; for now, suffice it to say that the show was an immense success, and I'm grateful to all who played, all who paid, and all who stayed. The lights were bright in Syracuse last night.
But meanwhile, Dana and I still had a radio show to do! Through the modern miracle of magic, we pre-recorded a show for the enjoyment of those poor souls who weren't in Syracuse last night, and I think we slapped together a pretty damned good trifle for all you outlanders. This week's extravaganza served up the TIRnRR debut of Squeegee, a bit more of recent faves from The Well Wishers, Ken Sharp, Clockwork Flowers, and The Monkees (and it remains a pure thrill to refer to something as "a recent fave by The Monkees"), and a lot of transcendent-like brilliance from our Featured Act, The Bangles. Chalk this one up as another fine example of The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet. In our role as Spartacus, we could no less. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a brightly-lit Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams (sorta) live (almost) every Sunday night from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
