This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 869

Until Saturday, I had never been in a record store on Record Store Day. This is the lot of one who works on Saturdays. But news that my favorite power pop group The Flashcubes would be playing a live Record Store Day event at Rochester's fab Bop Shop Records was sufficient incentive for me to take a vacation day. WELL worth it! Saw some old friends, heard some great music, and just had a wonderful day. Here's to Record Store Day!

This week's extry-special concentrated TWO HOUR radio show celebrated the spirit of Record Store Day with both sides of The Flashcubes' new 45, plus brand new music from Lannie Flowers, Circe Link, Cotton Mather, and Irene Pena, and a new archival release from Son Of Skooshny, the latter on Kool Kat Musik.

(Speaking of Kool Kat Musik, we also played several tracks from a SUPER SECRET PROJECT that...is still secret. Shhh. Don't tell anyone. But one of those tracks was a brand new tune from Maura & the Bright Lights, teaming Pete and Maura of The Kennedys, Gary, Arty, & Tommy of Screen Test, John Wicks of The Records, and local legend B.D. Love of My Sin. Throw in Super Secret Project tracks by The Rubinoos, Circe Link & Christian Nesmith, Mr. Encrypto & the Cyphers, P. Hux, Irene Pena, and Popdudes, with a promise of much more yet to come, and this Super Secret Project seems pretty promising, dunnit?)

NEXT WEEK: A return to three hours of Dana & Carl? It's possible! This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams live on Sunday nights from 9 to (usually) Midnight, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
