Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: The Hit Songs You Know! (maybe not by the artist you expect)

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Today's exercise in rock 'n' roll playlist fakery collects a bunch of mostly-familiar songs in less-familiar renditions. Some are covers, some are forgotten originals, but they all have one thing in common: each was the very first version of that song to make its way into my collection. I owned David Bowie's "See Emily Play" before I had anything by Pink Floyd, The Bay City Rollers' "Rebel Rebel" before Bowie's, Otis Redding's original "Respect" before Aretha Franklin's, and (I think) Todd Rundgren's "Rain" before The Beatles'. I am not under oath. It all makes for a decent playlist, so let's have a virtual listen. The definitive versions? Maybe in some cases, certainly not in others. Some were my actual introduction to the song, and some were just the versions I happened to acquire first.

Gotta start somewhere.
