Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL PLAYLIST: THIS IS 1966!

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

At the end of 2015, Dana and I put together a special edition of TIRnRR under the subtitle THIS IS 1965!  Prompted by my oft-stated belief that 1965 was pop music's best year ever--the good stuff was popular and the popular stuff was good--the show gathered together a bunch of supercool tracks from '65 and just rocked. The end result was just terrific, and it was a lot of fun to do.

The music of 1966 is pretty much in the same class as the music of '65. So: SEQUEL! An imaginary sequel, sure, but still a compelling collection of nonpareil pop tracks.

Similar to our approach to the real-world '65 special, the parameters for song selections in THIS IS 1966! were basic and simple: tracks associated with 1966. Hits, misses, obscurities, whatever. Some were released prior to 1966, but had their biggest impact in '66. One song--the Mynah Birds' incredible "I Got You (In My Soul)"--was originally planned for 1966 release but wound up shelved until this bright 'n' sparkly 21st century. It's nonetheless part of the 1966 story, and included here.

One track per artist. No attempt at trying to assemble a definitive snapshot of rockin' pop circa 1966. It's just a fake radio show, but the celebration is genuine. And the sounds are amazing. Ladies and gentlemen: THIS IS 1966!
