Let's have one more gallery celebrating my 60th anniversary as a comics fan, this time venturing outside of comic books and spotlighting various comics- and superhero-related books, products, magazines, ads, and images from 1966. The Batbook above and the Batpic below are from my own collection; the one and only Adam West his own Bat self autographed them for me when I saw him at a personal appearance in 1987.
And here's a 1966 photo of me pretending to be the Caped Crusader, and a 1987 photo of the actual Caped Crusader and me:
Thank you, citizen! The sheer magnitude of Batmania in 1966 dictates this gallery is very much dominated by our beloved Dynamic Duo. The Green Hornet's late '66 TV debut also brought the Green Hornet, his aide Kato, and their rolling arsenal the Black Beauty into '60s pop culture, and a number of other characters made at least some mark on the public consciousness. But really, 1966 belonged to Batman.
For this gallery, I wanted to stick with physical 1966 items that I've owned at some point in time. I did not want to include random images from TV or movies, nor even from the 1966 Broadway musical It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman, but I figured print ads for such things were fair game.
Most of the images in this gallery are not pictures from my own collection. But I did own each and every one of them at some point in time.
| Yeah, this one's mine. And I still have it |
