This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 875

L-R: Ronnie Dark, Dana Bonn, Mike "The Night Owl" Adams, and your boppin' blogger in 2014
Congratulations to our friends at The Wax Museum With Ronnie Dark over on WVOA-FM on the occasion of their eighth anniversary show last night. Mazel tov, y'all! There is so much great radio in Syracuse on Sundays, from Dave Frisina's free-form Soulshine on The Rebel 105.9 earlier in the day to Dave's long-running local spotlight Soundcheck at night, The Wax Museum to Mike Adams' cocktail hour The Night Owl Lounge on VOA, Larry Hoyt's Common Threads to Mark Bostick & Connie Wailer's Top Of The World on WAER, and Mark Hughson's terrific Everyone's Invited, which precedes whatever the hell it is we do on This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl right here on Westcott Radio. That's a lot of great radio, much of it all at the same damned time.

(And, illustrating the incestuous nature of this big ol' ball o' broadcastin', TIRnRR and The Wax Museum have done several crossover shows, Mike Adams does a Westcott Radio Show called The Record Farm, Dana has appeared on Soundcheck [which makes me jealous], Larry Hoyt often pops by the Westcott Radio studio to say hi while carrying out errands at the Westcott Community Center, Mark & Connie's world beat show used to be on the precursor to Westcott Radio, Ronnie Dark was on the last This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio compilation CD, and Dave Frisina once introduced me as I took the podium to induct The Flashcubes into our local music Hall Of Fame.)

We should all be rivals. Instead, we seem to all be friends. There's a lot of great radio in Syracuse on Sundays. On behalf of all of us, I offer again this simple statement of intent:

Just let me hear some more of that rock 'n' roll music!

This week's exercise of the above on TIRnRR tried to navigate a glitch-prone webcast to offer the TIRnRR debut of The Bookends, new Kool Kat Musik releases by Diamond Hands and The Greek Theatre, and our first-ever spins of a few more tracks from our forthcoming compilation CD This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, Volume 4, courtesy of Ray Paul, Stepford Knives, and The Grip Weeds. And we bid farewell to local musician Bob Lindberg, a great guy and fellow pop fan; Bob knew more about pop music than nearly anyone, and it was always a pure joy to talk records with Bob. His passing is a huge loss to the Central New York music community. We'll keep playing the music. But man, F*** cancer. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl streams Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcottradio.org
