The concept of The Forgotten Original!--an earlier version of a song later made more famous by someone else--has been a frequent source of fascination for us almost since the very start of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl. It was even a weekly feature on the show for a little while. In 2015, we finally followed through with our long-standing wish to devote an entire show to those earlier songs that came before the big hit covers. Ladies and gentlemen: THE FORGOTTEN ORIGINALS!

For years and years, we've been talking about dedicating an entire radio show to THE FORGOTTEN ORIGINALS!!, playing only original (or at least earlier) versions of songs that later became a bit better-known when someone else re-did 'em. We finally carried out that vow, and it was worth the wait. Whatta show! I KNEW there had to be reason that we kept on hyping this shindig as The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet; one really good reason would be the playlist you see below.

NEXT WEEK: hey, where'd all this new stuff come from? We've got new music from THE CATHOLIC GIRLS, VEGAS WITH RANDOLPH, NICK PIUNTI, and KURT BAKER, and probably a bunch of other great tunes, too. IN TWO WEEKS: a show so great it takes TWO different radio shows to pull it off! On April 26th, Dana & Carl will join The Wack Pack over on THE WAX MUSEUM WITH RONNIE DARK, and The Wack Pack's invited to join us on TIRnRR after that. Both shows will spotlight punk, garage, and power pop--with a little added attention to the Syracuse Sound--and the special guest on both shows will be JACK "PENETRATOR" LIPTON, lead singer of Syracuse's only, THE PENETRATORS! Missing these shows would be unwise. And this is what THE FORGOTTEN ORIGINALS!! sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO with Dana & Carl streams live every Sunday night from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at www.westcootradio.org
