Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post is the current update of my long-threatened book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1).
As noted in the piece, the GREM! book is only two chapters short of a complete first draft. I have a flexible goal of finishing those two remaining chapters (discussing "All For Swinging You Around" by the New Pornographers and "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers) before my birthday. After working on this book for years, there would be a certain cool factor in the happenstance of a chapter about "Time Has Come Today" serving as the final flourish of this stage of the project.
I don't think I'm going to meet that timeline. This week will require me to prepare for this Sunday's big This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio celebration We're Your Friends For Now--30 Years Of Dana & Carl, and I also need to finally start looking at the hoops to navigate with my Mom's estate. Nonetheless, the New Pornographers chapter is about half done, the Chamber Brothers piece has a solid start, and I'm motivated to get it done. I'm also looking forward to the revision process, because that's the grand opportunity to streamline and make all of these disparate components flow together as a single cohesive work. A book. At long last, a book.
