This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1201

Love makes the world go 'round.

It's a simple notion. Many would say it's a simplistic notion, but they are wrong. It's not the same as saying that all we need is love, nor that love will conquer all; those are simplistic notions. No, it's just recognizing love as motivation, and love as aspiration. We can't get by on love alone. Love isn't everything.

But without love, well, what is there left for us to care about?

We have our love of the music. If we're lucky, we have the love of and for those we cherish. In darker times, we have memories of love, recollections to hold closely and dearly for as long as we draw breath.

I scan some of the song titles in this week's playlist. Let's get started. Everybody's got the right to love. Shiny happy people. One more night. See no evil. Hear my prayer. Place in my heart. Moments fly. Litany (Life goes on).

And, of course, gimme gimme shock treatment.

Each October brings a potent and not always welcome mix of memories, some pleasant, others absolutely devastating. There are pains that linger, aches that will never heal.

But there is the promise of more. The promise of better. Not all promises are kept. But belief in the promise of possibility keeps us going. Each promise starts with love.

Love makes the world go 'round. Let's work toward that. Together.

This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on another Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
