No radio show is an island. But music can provide an oasis (lower-case o) in its own right. Whatever else is going on, whatever losses we mourn, the slings and arrows we suffer can sometimes pause just long enough for a catchy tune or two. The respite doesn't solve our problems, but even the respite itself is reason enough. And if we have a reason, we may as well continue. Nose to the grindstone. Queer shoulder to the wheel. Ears on the records that drive us on.
And hearts with all who care to listen.
We thank you for sharing our respite. We hope we can also offer you refuge from your own version of those pesky slings and arrows. No radio show is an island. And if this ain't an island, I guess nothing can stop us from walking toward wherever we need to be.
Keep going. Don't stop. Just keep going until you get to the there you're supposed to get to.
Yeah, we'll listen to some cool sounds as we travel. That's what the traveling's for. That's what music's for, and what love is for. That's what friends--and family--are for.
For my oldest brother Art. We'll meet again. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on another Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
