Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: 1977 (inspired by the ONLY THREE LADS podcast)

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Inspired by this week's edition of the Only Three Lads podcast, here's an imaginary playlist of 1977 music. We've done some previous fake playlists drawn from the same well, of course. I've often said that 1977 was my crucible year, as I went from high school senior to college freshman, and I discovered new sounds--punk in general, the Ramones in particular--that helped define whoever it was I was going to be. Plus: GIRLS!!

Previous exercises have concentrated on tracks I owned or was at least aware of in '77; this takes a slightly broader view, including many entries that I didn't hear until much later in the ol' timeline (like Chrisma, mentioned in this week's O3L). I made a good faith effort to limit this to 1977 releases, but I did decide the late '76 release of Thelma Houston's 1977 hit "Don't Leave Me This Way" was close enough. Hell, anything within the perimeter of '77 was close enough.

It was 1977. Anything could happen in 1977.

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl--y'know, the real one--airs Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, on the air in Syracuse at SPARK!
