This week's Wednesday

Wednesday is my day off from retail work, which makes it my designated day to record my parts for each week's edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio and to try to get around to doing whatever else needs doing. I always run out out of Wednesday before I run out of Wednesday things to do.

January Jones? She's not a Wednesday--she's not even a day of the week!

Dreary, rainy morning. I had mowed the lawn Monday night, so at least that didn't need to be part of this week's Wednesday anyway. I'd had a lot to do Tuesday night, so I wound up going to bed just before 1:00 am, later than I'd planned. Wednesday, I got up a little before 9:00, deferred breakfast, did not defer coffee--let's not get crazy--and Brenda and I discussed a basic blueprint of plans for the day and the week. Then I took a shower and got on the computer to address my online addressables.

After the ritual weekly management of banking and bills, my main online addressible was this week's radio show: [ahem] THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO # 1300. Try to imagine a dramatic echo effect to enhance that. Dana and I put together an absolutely killer playlist Tuesday night, and while we both wish we could have squeezed in several more scores of additional nods to acts and tracks we've played over the course of our first 1299 shows, I'm satisfied that we did pretty well in executing a proper celebration of whatever the hell it is we do and exulting in its mystifying longevity.

Our proposed playlists usually require significant tweaking to fit within the three hours we're allowed, but this one didn't need any adjustments at all in the main part of the show, and only minor switches and swaps within the meant-to-be-malleable eighth set (i.e., the bonus set). I finished the track annotation Wednesday morning before attempting to record the show. The recording itself proceeded with little incident; the issues noted last week with my iTunes library were still present, but more easily managed. Many of the files stubbornly, petulantly refused to acquiesce to the transferring process--stubborn, petulant music files!--but I was able to drag 'em individually, one by one, into the proper folder. The whole mess was Dropboxed to Dana shortly after noon.

With the show completed and no morning meal attempted, Brenda and I had a lunch of leftovers (a superb meatloaf and some takeaway Asian BBQ ribs with pork-fried rice, accompanied by water for Brenda, Mexican Coca-Cola for me). We had a 2:00 appointment with our financial advisor, but given the chronic construction-related traffic delays that have been so common in our area this year, we gave ourselves an hour for the twenty-five minute commute. We arrived early, sat in the car for a while listening to music (including Men Without Hats' extended mix of "Safety Dance," which remains my preferred version of the song), then went in to discuss my intention to build a personal money bin, where I can dive into my cash like a porpoise, burrow through it like a gopher, and toss it up and let it hit me on the head. This idea was soundly vetoed by advisors I suspect have never even set foot in Duckburg. Ah well....

We ran errands on the way home--quick stops at two grocery stores, a fill-up at the gas station, and a renewed funnybook fix at Comix Zone--and I dropped Brenda off at home before going off to grab a mushroom pizza for dinner.

The rest of the week looks to be pretty hectic, but we'll burn those bridges when we get to them. I'm delighted that the first copies of my labor o' love compilation album Make Something Happen! A Tribute To The Flashcubes have appeared at the Big Stir Records office. I am so proud of this record, so grateful to everyone who helped to accomplish that elusive make-something-happen directive, and so eager for the world to hear it. Complete liner notes here, preorders available here.

Wednesday night concluded with a little more blogging to finish off before getting to bed, and getting there earlier than I managed on Tuesday night. I say I run out of Wednesday before I run out of Wednesday things to do. But I'm adjusting, and I'm accomplishing what I can. Hey, Wednesday! Wanna dance? I can hear Men Without Hats even as I type. S [dramatic echo effect]! A [dramatic echo effect]! F [dramatic echo effect]! E [dramatic echo effect]! T [dramatic echo effect]! Y [dramatic echo effect]...!
