About Me

My photo

I'm the co-host of THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO with Dana & Carl (Sunday nights, 9 to Midnight Eastern, www.westcottradio.org).  As a freelance writer, I contributed to Goldmine magazine from 1986-2006, wrote liner notes for Rhino Records' compilation CD Poptopia!  Power Pop Classics Of The '90s, and for releases by The Flashcubes, The Finkers, Screen Test, 1.4.5., and Jack "Penetrator" Lipton.  I contributed to the books Bubblegum Music Is The Naked Truth, Shake Some Action, Lost In The Grooves, and MusicHound Rock, and to DISCoveries, Amazing Heroes, The Comics Buyer's Guide, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Comics Collector, The Buffalo News, and The Syracuse New Times.  I also wrote the liner notes for the three THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO compilation CDs, because, well, who could stop me?  My standing offer to write liner notes for a Bay City Rollers compilation has remained criminally ignored.  Still intend to write and sell a Batman story someday.

Tonight On THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO

A special, compact TWO-HOUR edition of The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet will have the number 4 on its little mutant mind. We'll start by servin' up a roughly one-hour tribute to Ken Sharp's book Play On! Power Pop Heroes Volume 4, with a track apiece from each of the 17 artists profiled therein. That means a first hour of tracks from The dB's, The Producers, Tommy Keene, Let's Active, The Go-Go's, The Spongetones, The Bangles, The Three O'Clock, The Smithereens, Crowded House, The Hoodoo Gurus, Redd Kross, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub, The Pursuit Of Happiness, Michael Penn, and Parthenon Huxley. Man, how do we follow that? Well, we'll have new music from The RubilatorsDM3, The Bayonets, and Brenyama, a track from JAM Recordings' new compilation Sweet Relief Volume 4, and we'll close with a bunch of selections from our own forthcoming compilation, This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, Volume 4. 4-4-4! All this, and an announcement about who's taking over next week's show! Sunday night, 9 to 11 Eastern, www.westcottradio.org
