My Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Fan Ballot

Yes, yes, I know. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke, an abomination, an embarrassment, and, I betcha, a robocaller and a spit-talker. No need to point any of that out to me, thanks. And The Monkees have still never been nominated for induction, and I don't think anyone else should get in before The Monkees. You disagree? Get your own blog.

But rock 'n' roll should honor its own. This is the ballot we have this year:

The Cure
Def Leppard
Devo
Janet Jackson
Kraftwerk
LL Cool J
The MC5
Stevie Nicks
John Prine
Radiohead
Rage Against The Machine
Roxy Music
Rufus/Chaka Khan
Todd Rundgren
The Zombies

Mere ruffian fans like me can vote for five of these acts in the fan vote. I may only cast my fan vote for The Zombies (to maximize the effect of my vote on their behalf). If I were to pick five, my five would be:

Devo
The MC5
Roxy Music
Todd Rundgren
The Zombies

Who I wish could be my five:

The Monkees
The Monkees
The Monkees
The Monkees
The Monkees

If I were in charge of this year's nominees, the 15 acts nominated would be:

Arthur Alexander
Badfinger
The Go-Go's
The MC5
The Monkees
The New York Dolls
Paul Revere & the Raiders
Todd Rundgren
The Searchers
The Spinners
T. Rex
Larry Williams
Link Wray
Warren Zevon
The Zombies

And I would cast a fan vote for:

The Monkees

If compelled to turn in a complete ballot, I would vote for:

Arthur Alexander
Badfinger
The Monkees
Link Wray
The Zombies

Given my druthers, all of my 15 would be inducted, and all of my real-world fan vote this year, too. And so would Big Star, Lesley Gore, Harry Nilsson, The Collins Kids, Nick Lowe, and many more. But starting with The Monkees. I'm a believer.
