BRIGHT LIGHTS AT THE SHERATON: 20 Years Of Wednesdays With GARY FRENAY & ARTY LENIN

For many pop music fans in Central New York, Wednesdays means Happy Hour at Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel. That's when and where Gary Frenay and Arty Lenin perform their beguiling weekly mix of well-loved covers and brilliant originals. Armed with acoustic guitars, the harmonies that radio taught them, and a ready steady go-to supply of nonpareil pop songs, Frenay & Lenin have delighted audiences for decades. They've done it as members of The Flashcubes. They've done it as members of Screen Test, The Neverly Brothers, and The FabCats, among others. They've done it solo. On Wednesdays at the Sheraton, they do it without a set list: on the run, dreaming on eggshells, a splendid time guaranteed for all.

And now, they've been doing it at the Sheraton for 20 years.

On Wednesday February 19th from 5 to 8 pm, join Gary Frenay & Arty Lenin for a celebration of two decades at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel, the longest-running weekly gig in the history of the Syracuse music scene. They promise one set of Beatles tunes, one set of Flashcubes, Screen Test, and solo nuggets, and one set of requests.

There would be no This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio if not for The Flashcubes. I can't think of a better way to spend a Wednesday Happy Hour.

2020 seems to be a year for anniversaries in this Syracuse music scene we love so much. Beyond this two-decade milestone of Gary & Arty at the Sheraton, Screen Test will be forty years old this summer. 1.4.5., the ace combo formed by Gary and Arty's once and future Cubic Compadre Paul Armstrong, also turns 40 this year, and so does another great local group, The Trend. 2020 looks to be a happy year for anniversaries of these rockin' pop acts we adore.

The brightest of lights.

See you tonight at the Sheraton. And maybe--just maybe--see you this Syracuse summer? One never knows when lights may decide to turn bright...one more time.
