The minor customizing I did here when I was six still means I did more work on this cover than credited artist Bob Kane ever did |
I can't overstate the lasting impact of this book upon impressionable li'l me. At the age of six in 1966, I was already a devoted fan of the Batman TV show. The Signet paperback solidified that devotion, and I remain a fan of Batman and a fan of comic books. Today, at the never-to-be-mature age of 60, I still delight in my weekly haul of new comic books.
For further background on my early development as a Batfan, you can also check out "My Two Batmen" and my Everlasting First recollection of discovering the TV show. You can read my obituary for TV's Batman Adam West, and my commentary for This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio's playlist immediately after West's passing. Looking ahead, my book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1) will include a chapter about "The Batman Theme."
But for now: to the Boppin' Pop-A-Looza BATLINK!
For dramatic purposes, the role of the Batlink shall be played by singer Lesley Gore |
