Countdown Addendum, Part 2: Complete alternate ranking of most-played tracks from THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO compilation CDs

OUR STORY SO FAR: On Sunday, we presented a countdown of the 56 all-time most-played tracks from our This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio compilation CDs (playlist here, podcast here). Yesterday, we showed you the complete ranking for all of the 146 tracks that have appeared on our compilations; that was the master list from which we programmed this week's show.

Today, we offer an alternate version of the countdown. The actual show reflected overall airplay of each song, regardless of resource: for example, the on-air # 3 ranking for Eytan Mirsky's "This Year's Gonna Be Our Year" included spins from its original appearance on Eytan's Year Of The Mouse album as well as its appearance on This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, Volume 5. We felt this approach provided the most accurate reflection of each track's playlist preeminence.

This alternate version only considers plays that were credited on our playlists to one or another of the TIRnRR compilations. It doesn't count spins from Year Of The Mouse, bumping our official # 3 all the way down to # 103. It doesn't count spins from Mannix's Come To California, or from the Flashcubes' Bright Lights or Flashcubes Forever or Flashcubes On Fire, or from Meet The Catholic Girls, or from singles by Justine and the Unclean or Kelley Ryan or Kid Gulliver, and so on. This list is purely a reflection of TIRnRR compilation spins.

Oh, and speaking of those TIRnRR compilations: GET 'EM ALL!!!

Thanks once again to the mighty Fritz Van Leaven for coming up with this countdown and making it so. The sharp-eyed among you will note that today's list is ten songs shorter than yesterday's list; the discrepancy is due to the fact that seven of our compilation tracks have only appeared on our playlists as spins credited to other sources, never as tracks credited to our comps. I'm surprised to note that three more tracks have never appeared on the show at all; we'll be remedying that PDQ.
