Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: These Are The 1990s

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

When Dana and I were guests on The Spoon in 2021 (as heard here), the podcast's hosts Robbie RistChris Jackson, and Thom Bowers gave us each the opportunity to play a track for The Spoon's regular feature The Greatest Song You've Never Heard! We chose "This Year's Gonna Be Our Year" by Eytan Mirsky and "It's You Tonight" by the Flashcubes. Hearing that the 'Cubes track was from the 1990s, Robbie congratulated us on actually finding something good within the '90s music scene.

I dunno how serious Robbie was about that--I get the feeling that maybe possibly our Robbie sometimes occasionally likes to joke around an eensy little bit--but the memory of that comment popped back into my brain during a commute last week. My trusty iPod shuffled to "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows. I've always liked that track a lot.  And I started thinking about slapping together a '90s playlist.

The results of that slappin' appear below. We have popular hits, cult faves, and relative obscurities, and we have Mr. Rist hisself with his great '90s pop combo Wonderboy. This playlist is not necessarily intended to represent the best of the '90s, nor is it the '90s in microcosm. It's just a collection of fabulous rockin' pop tracks from a decade that produced its fair share of fabulous rockin' pop tracks. It's a '90s party! Like Robbie sings with his fellow Wonderlads:

Believe.

Just, y'know...don't inhale. Homie don't play that. Welcome back to the 1990s.
