As I write these words, my daily blog Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) is within a handful of clickety-clicks of reaching its one-millionth view. It should hit that milestone today.
I know it's not a really big number in cyberworld, especially as it's taken me nearly eight years to get there. An influencer I am not. TikTok? Man, don't say something that sounds like Tick Tock! to someone my age.
But I'm still blogging, at least once a day, however modest or ambitious each day's post happens to be. I started because the death of David Bowie in 2016 hit me so much harder than I expected, I reaction I later realized was just as much about my daughter spending a semester in England as it was about Bowie. But the feeling was intense. I had to write...something.
And that was the unlikely genesis of this preposterous notion of keeping a daily blog. I don't have many followers, but committing to daily blogging got me back into writing. And it compelled me to finish writing my first book, Gabba Gabba Hey! A Conversation With The Ramones, which was published in 2023. That, in turn, grew in part out of an attempt to write another book, The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1), which is also done and awaiting word from a potential publisher. And all of it came about because of Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do!).
Listen: I do understand that my little blog doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of this world of wonder.
But it's meant a lot to me.
One million and counting. Hey there. How ya doin'? Hope we can see each other again tomorrow.
