This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.
The vaults. What would we do without the vaults?
Today's exercise in imaginary playlisting selects tracks that went unreleased at the time of their original recording. Most of them were eventually exhumed and dusted off for public consumption in later years (or decades), though a few still remain officially unreleased.
Coming off a series of all-covers fake TIRnRR playlists that spotlighted the Ramones, the Flashcubes, and the Beatles as Featured Artists, I figured I'd do the same thing here with the Monkees. As much as Peter, Davy, Micky, and Michael seemed to be so underappreciated for so very long, the Monkees' legacy has been lovingly preserved and expanded in deluxe reissues. I tell ya, some of the stuff that was pried outta the Monkees' vault after the fact is peer to the familiar Monkees motherlode, and two of these missing-links treats are among my 25 favorite Monkees tracks.
So: INTO THE VAULT! Any record you ain't heard is a new record. An artist's canon may be larger than we knew at first. Let's have a listen.
