Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: Covers in the 21st Century

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Following last week's fake TIRnRR playlist of covers from the '70s, '80s, and '90s--the classic alternative era, as defined by the Only Three Lads podcast--we bop ahead to our current rockin' pop 21st century. Here's a program of covers recorded/released in the period from the year 2000 to date.

As with our previous imaginary playlist, today's fanciful celebration of borrowed songs consists solely of tracks that occurred to me without resorting to outside references. The fact that I didn't do any research (other than confirming whether or not a few individual entries fall within the timeline) means I forgot about a lot of worthy material. To paraphrase someone from earlier in this still-young century: You go on the radio with the playlist you have, not the playlist you wish you had.

(And, just as last week's effort featured the Ramones in each set, this week's extravaganza features the Flashcubes in each set. I like the Flashcubes.)

So! Time once again to exult in the splendor of people doin' other people's stuff. And we'll be back tomorrow with another phonus-balonus playlist of covers from the 1960s.

Hmmm. The alt-era covers playlist featured the Ramones. This 21st century covers playlist features the Flashcubes. Gee, I wonder what act will be featured in the '60s covers playlist?

Oh. Of course.

  1. Gudby T’Jane by the Flashcubes came on my phone in the car on Monday and I hit “repeat” about, oh, 75 times. Greatest Record Ever Made, according to Carl’s iron clad rule.
