This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1224

We can see for miles. We can also hear for miles.

After more than twenty-five years of doing whatever it is that This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio does, it's cool to be able to look at a new week's playlist and see that twenty-one tracks--more than a third of the show--are things never before played on TIRnRR

New releases account for a lot of our fresh spins, of course. We always, always like to mix in a little bit of the latest and greatest alongside our familiar classics, fave raves, and golden oldies. But there are also vintage tunes we just somehow never got around to programming in our preceding 1220+ shows. Before this week, we'd never played the Four Tops' '70s hit "Keeper Of The Castle," nor Linda Ronstadt's cover of Elvis Costello's "Talking In The Dark," nor Millie Small's cover of Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home To Me," nor the Ramones' End Of The Century album track "All The Way," nor the Easybeats' "Heaven And Hell," and so on.

Man, I love what we do here.

Maybe it's bad form to declare that you're a fan of your own work. But I love this show. I love the seemingly random combinations that combust from the selections Dana and I make, and I'm always delighted that the resulting blend winds up sounding like some deliberate master stroke of meticulous, premeditated programming.

But it ain't. I play a record. Dana plays a record. The mix takes care of itself. The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet. Stuff ya know, stuff ya don't know...

...yet.

Listen, my children, and you will hear. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on another Sunday night in Syracuse this week.

This show is available as a podcast.
