Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: Songs The TV Taught Me

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

It does not necessarily follow that video must kill the radio star. Over the years, there have been a number of tracks that I heard first when I saw them performed (or lip-synced, or played over unrelated graphics) on TV. Some of the performances were by artists I already knew, while others were my introductions to the artists at hand.

This faux TIRnRR playlist slaps togather a bunch of those cathode-ray pop introductions, from variety shows, rock 'n' roll showcase shows, sitcoms, and what-have-you. It does not include anything I learned from a TV screening of a feature film--nothing from, say, Help!, nor from Bloodstone's cinematic classic Train Ride To Hollywood, nor Cliff Richard in Expresso Bongo--but it does include things like Alice Cooper lip-syncing a snippet of "Sick Things" on an episode of The Snoop Sisters. An introduction's an introduction, no matter how brief it is. And it opens with a spin of "I May Be Too Young," which Suzi Quatro lip-synced on the British TV show Supersonic. It was the first footage of Suzi Q I'd ever seen, and I was smitten. Smitten, I tell ya! Watch. Listen. ROCK!
