COMING THIS SUNDAY: A Unique Countdown To Celebrate THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO # 1050

This Sunday November 8th brings the 1050th edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl. The milestone pretty much snuck up on us, but our pal and intrepid stats guy Fritz Van Leaven was prepared as always. And Fritz suggested we commemorate the ritual hitting of a grand plus fifty with a unique celebration: a countdown of the 50 acts that have accumulated TIRnRR airplay with the greatest number of different tracks over the course of our first 1049 shows (plus sundry special editions).

Yeah, one-hit wonders need not apply.

It's an interesting list. By definition, it includes many of our reliable go-to acts, but it also excludes a number of artists who have indeed received a lot of playlist love over the decades. Looking at the list of our 100 all-time most-played acts as of last year's TIRnRR # 1000, Sunday's countdown includes 37 of our all-time Top 50, and a total of 44 of our Top 100 most-played acts. That leaves room for some surprises.

In bangin' out a playlist comprised solely of tracks by these 50 artists, we went with a mix of choices. Some acts will be represented on the countdown by whichever of their tracks we've played the most often in the past, while in some cases we're gonna play whatever track we feel like playing. Well...actually, each artist will be represented by whatever track we feel like playing, and in some cases that will also happen to be the artist's most-played TIRnRR track. Can't have a proper radio celebration without playing some hits.

And we figure the # 1 act on Sunday's countdown deserves a twin spin! While we will close the show with that # 1 act's most-played TIRnRR ace faveravenumberonesupersmashmegahit, it will be preceded by a different track by the same artist, a track that our records reveal (to our surprise!) has never been played on this show before. We've played a cover; we've never played the original...until now.

It all happens Sunday night, 9 to Midnight Eastern, on the air in Syracuse at SPARK! WSPJ 103.3 and 93.7 FMhttp://sparksyracuse.org/  As always, Fritz's efforts have paid off. Join us!
