POP-A-LOOZA! This Man, This Marvel: A Guy Named Stan

Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post is my tribute to the great Stan Lee: "This Man, This Marvel: A Guy Named Stan," written upon Lee's passing two years ago this week.

Even though I'm a DC Comics guy, I've always loved Marvel Comics, too. It's okay; I also like both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. My discoveries of Marvel and DC are essential parts of the autobiography of my childhood, Singers, Superheroes, And Songs On The Radio: My Life In Pop Culture, The 1960s. I've written separately of my introduction to Marvel, my pathetic, failed Marvel Comics try-out, my first published Marvel Comics letter of comment, and individual appreciations of The AvengersNot Brand Echh, Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch, and an odd '60s title called Marvel Super-Heroes. The tale of my introduction to Doc Savage included my recollection of the Man of Bronze's brief career as a Marvel hero.

Marvel material has also appeared occasionally (if infrequently) in my DC-centric 100-Page FAKES! series, and in its recently-cancelled successor Spectacular Comics 100-Page Special:

Sub-Mariner # 72

Giant-Size Spider-Man # 3

Marvel Feature # 1

Astonishing Tales # 1

Spectacular Comics 100-Page Special # 2

Spectacular Comics 100-Page Special # 3

Spectacular Comics 100-Page Special # 4

You can search for this blog's additional Marvel Comics coverage via my convenient index. For now, we remember a guy named Stan and all he meant to us. My tribute to Stan Lee is the latest Boppin' Pop-A-Looza.
