Awright. How much more are we ready to reveal?
Work continues on the forthcoming various-artists set Make Something Happen! A Tribute To A DIY Power Pop Band Called THE FLASHCUBES. When I say "work," I mean the artists involved are creating the rockin' pop magic they do so well, crafting a stunning array of interpretations of songs written by members of my favorite power pop group the Flashcubes. The 'Cubes themselves have contributed three brand-new and fully invigmoratin' tracks for the album. All I'm doing is chatting and shuffling, though I'm also starting to pull at the threads of what will become the album's liner notes. We remain full-speed ahead toward the album's scheduled September release from the mighty Big Stir Records label.
Since our last update, I have confirmed the participation of an artist held in the highest regard by knowledgeable fans of pop with power, and I've also confirmed a veteran British rock 'n' roll star whose work I've enjoyed since I was in high school. In further fine tuning, the artist previously confirmed for a cover of 'Cubes guitarist Paul Armstrong's "Muscle Beach" is now bringing in a buddy to collaborate under a different rock 'n' roll DBA, and we couldn't be more excited. Muscle Beach, that's where I want to be!
Also since our last update, I have in hand four more completed tracks, three of which will appear on our next edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio (Sunday night, April 20th, 9 to Midnight Eastern at sparksyracuse.org).
The 4/30 show will open with "Sweet Spot," a sublime new Flashcubes track written by 'Cubes bassist Gary Frenay and the late B. D. Love. It will also include Japanese band the Choosers' successful tackle of 'Cubes guitarist Arty Lenin's "Christi Girl," which you can preview in a live performance here. And the show's closing set will kick off with an INCREDIBLE cover of Paul Armstrong and Gary Frenay's "Radio," now supercharged and ably interpreted in this newfangled 21st century by New York City's phenomenal pop combo...
...Nope. Not tellin' ya that one just yet. And we'll also hold off on talking about the fourth track we just received, but you can plan on hearing that on our April 27th show.
We've shuffled the album's tentative sequence a bit, and the current blueprint appears below:
