Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: Groove Gratitude (A Gift Of Music)

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Poor ol' Blanche DuBois had to rely upon the kindness of strangers. Me, I've been fortunate enough to have friends and family who've occasionally given me gifts of music. This fake This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio playlist is constructed solely of a few of many tracks contained on LPs, 45s, cassettes, CDs, and even one Bay City Rollers eight-track, all of which I received as gifts over the decades. It excludes promos given to me by artists and/or record labels, and it excludes any home-made mix tapes or CD-Rs.

The Beatles wind up as de facto Featured Artist here, reflecting Christmas, birthday, and high school graduation gifts of Introducing The Beatles, Let It Be, 1967-1970, Abbey Road, The Beatles Featuring Tony Sheridan, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the White Album. The playlist is generally limited to one track per gifted record, but it does include a whole set of tracks from my cherished Christmas '76 various-artists prize History Of British Rock Vol. 2, which gave me my first-ever track by The Kinks. I would, uh, get a few more Kinks records after that, and see them at an incredible live show in 1978.

The playlist reaches back to my first LPs (a record starring TV cartoon heroes Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole, and Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron by The Royal Guardsmen), and runs through subsequent boons like an Otis Redding boxed set, a 45 by Baron Daemon & the Vampires, the Tommy soundtrack, and a Village People live album. Judge not, you lot. It includes a gift of The Eagles' Greatest Hits, and it includes the Todd Rundgren double-album I traded that in to get instead--close enough, right? The Jackson Five LP probably shouldn't count, since it was a replacement copy given to me by a friend who'd accidentally trashed my original copy when she borrowed it. As I pointed out in another recent post: I'm not under oath here, man.

So thank you, friends! Let's hear what you got me.
