THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Featured Performers

Although I've continuously updated the list of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio's Featured Artists, it's been quite a while since I've done it as a fresh post here. This week's tribute to the late Hal Blaine prompts me to change the billing a little bit, recognizing that we sometimes want to spotlight the work of a musician whose name isn't listed above the title. Henceforth, we're going to try to refer to these as Featured Performers rather than Featured Artists or Featured Acts. Rest assured that we will screw that up, but we'll remain lovable all the while. ("Performers" would seem to exclude producers, songwriters, or any other non-performing entity we might feature in the future--hey, that's catchy!--so I remind you once again that we're not under oath.)

It bothers me a little bit that we so frequently wind up celebrating a Featured Performer because the performer in question has recently passed. We can't stop this numbing parade of mortality, and we're going to continue to honor our heroes in these occasions; we may also want to consider more living tributes to the performers we love. The complication?  A mere three hours a week goes by faster than you would ever think possible. As TIRnRR barrels blithely along the path to our 1000th show later this year, Dana and I will keep trying to get it right, keep paying tribute when we can and/or when we must, and keep playing the collection of rockin' pop music that defines The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet.

And now, your officially updated listing:

This is a (presumably) complete list of all groups, singers, musicians, and/or pop wunderkind that have ever been a Featured Performer on THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO with Dana & Carl. When we have a Featured Performer, that performer is played at least once per set in that week's show, which generally means a minimum of eight or nine tracks in a three-hour show (and often more than that). Our first Featured Performer was The Kinks, who remain the only act to ever take over an entire episode of TIRnRR; in fact, we have now done TWO all-Kinks shows. This list will continue to expand as we program more Featured Performers on future shows.
