Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: First-Time-On-CD Tracks On THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Compilations

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Dana and I love physical media. This remains true, even as the process of programming TIRnRR from home means that everything we play now is, by default, a digital track. We acknowledge the reality of that situation. We still dig holding a record or CD in our hands; that's always going to feel more real to us.

Today's exercise in playlist fakery gathers a number of tracks that made their CD debuts on one or another of our five This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio compilations. To keep things manageable, this playlist arbitrarily excludes tracks from Waterloo Sunset--Benefit For This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, and also tracks from the bonus disc originally bundled with Volume 2. We're limiting selections to one track per billed performer...

...and we still had plenty of material, certainly enough to fill a hypothetical three-hour show. Some of these have since appeared on other CDs, but each made its CD debut on a TIRnRR comp.

That trend continues with our current (and most excellent) compilation This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, Volume 5. Of Volume 5's 23 music tracks, 16 have never appeared on any previously-released CD; of the seven other tracks, the original CD appearances of two of 'em are long, loooong out of print. So: public service! You can buy your own CD copy of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio, Volume 5 right here. And--though it borders on the ironic within this post's physical media theme--you can even buy the download album here

We are large. We contain multitudes. And our compilation albums have contained a big ol' bunch of tracks that had never been on CD before. Here's a playlist built from some of those tracks.
