GABBA GABBA HEY! A summary of THIS IS ROCK 'n' ROLL RADIO's Ramones programming in April and May

The publication of my new book Gabba Gabba Hey! A Conversation With The Ramones made me want to thread some Ramones-specific programming within each of our This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio playlists in April and May. This culminated in our May 28th special edition GABBA GABBA HEY! A Celebration Of The Ramones. This is how we built up to that special in the eight weeks that preceded it.

APRIL

Over the course of five Sunday nights in April, we programmed my # 1 favorite track from each of the Ramones' fourteen studio albums, plus my favorite non-LP Ramones track and my favorite Ramones soundtrack entry. The fifth Sunday dealt with my favorites from the four offical live albums the Ramones released during their career. Four Ramones tracks per week. Here's how that plan played out:

BLITZKRIEG BOP (Ramones)
CARBONA NOT GLUE (Leave Home)
SHEENA IS A PUNK ROCKER (Rocket To Russia)
I WANNA BE SEDATED (Road To Ruin)

DO YOU REMEMBER ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO? (End Of The Century)
ALL'S QUIET ON THE EASTERN FRONT (Pleasant Dreams)
IN THE PARK (Subterranean Jungle)
DAYTIME DILEMMA (DANGERS OF LOVE) (Too Tough To Die)

MY BRAIN IS HANGING UPSIDE DOWN (BONZO GOES TO BITBURG (Animal Boy)
I WANNA LIVE (Halfway To Sanity)
I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES (Brain Drain)
TOURING (Mondo Bizarro)

7 AND 7 IS (Acid Eaters)
I DON'T WANT TO GROW UP (¡Adios Amigos!)
BABYSITTER (non-LP track [in the US])
COME ON LET'S GO [Paley Brothers and Ramones] (soundtrack entry)

APRIL 30

ROCKAWAY BEACH (It's Alive)
PET SEMATARY/CARBONA NOT GLUE (Loco Live)
I DON'T WANT TO GROW UP (Greatest Hits Live)
R.A.M.O.N.E.S. [We're Outta Here)
CALIFORNIA SUN/I DON'T WANNA WALK AROUND WITH YOU [live, 45 B-side]

MAY

For the three Sunday nights prior to Memorial Day weekend, we did a salute to THE RAMONES AT THE MOVIES

[all heard in the film Rock 'n' Roll High School]
SHEENA IS A PUNK ROCKER
I JUST WANT TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO
I WANT YOU AROUND
QUESTIONINGLY
