This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.
My long-threatened (and still hypothetical) book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1) celebrates a number of fantastic individual tracks by a number of outtasight rockin' pop performers. And those great performers also recorded other great tracks. A collection of some of those recordings seems like an ideal resource for a fake This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio playlist.
An infinite number of tracks can each be THE greatest record ever made, as long as they take turns. Each of the acts in the playlist below has at least one song represented in the current blueprint for my GREM! book. A few of the songs listed here--the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," the Ramones' "I Don't Want To Grow Up," the Monkees' "The Girl I Knew Somewhere," and the Beatles' "Thank You, Girl"--were in previous drafts of the book, but were sidelined in the process of streamlining. Nonetheless, whether it's for the even-more-hypothetical The Greeatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 2) or for my (still classified as SECRET) book I have due out in the Spring of 2023, I aim to get all four of these entries between the covers of a book some day.
Meanwhile, let's spin some records. It doesn't matter if each, any, or none of these is necessarily the Greatest Record Ever Made. They're all great. An infinite number, man. And if this isn't The Greatest Playlist Ever Made, it's well worthy of its own infinite turn.
That turn starts by turning it up. Take it away, Chuck Berry!
