MY WEEKLY VIDEO BLOG: THE GREATEST RECORD EVER MADE! # 11: Eytan Mirsky, "This Year's Gonna Be Our Year"

An infinite number of songs can each be THE greatest record ever made, as long as they take turns. I like that idea so much I'm writing a book about it. And I'm promoting that book with a weekly video series, discussing each of the book's chosen tracks one by one.

This week's rant skips ahead to one of the last songs discussed in the book, Eytan Mirsky's incredible year-end kiss-off "This Year's Gonna Be Our Year." Oh my God, this is such a fantastic song, both earnest and snarky at the same time. Its irresistible verve prompted me to write one of the most emotional and heartfelt chapters in a book filled with a fair number of other heartfelt and emotional chapters. Eytan wrote the song with the intent of creating a New Year's Eve classic, and he succeeded. Man, did he ever!

Don't know the song? It's not too late to turn that around. You can hear Eytan's GREM!-approved original here. You can also check out The Kennedys' most-recent weekly live stream, which concludes with their own sterling rendition of this anthem (as requested by some guy who writes a blog and co-hosts a radio show). And then you can see my ravings on the song's behalf:

2020 was not the year that anyone wanted. 2021? Our year. This time for sure.

  2. Agreed. No real competition for it, either. Even The Zombies'"This Will Be Our Year" (my favorite Zombies track, and I love The Zombies) can't match the anthemic feel of Eytan's tune.
