On Wednesday afternoon, as I was waiting for a tow truck to arrive and replace a blown-out tire, I received an email from AHOY Comics boss Hart Seely, informing me that AHOY had decided to buy another one of my short stories. So, some good news while dealing with the frustration of car troubles.
With this sale, my 2019 batting average of short stories sold moves to two out of three, a record which Meat Loaf says ain't bad. It certainly beats my zero out of a thousand record from 1973 through 2018, lemme tell ya. There's no word yet on when either my earlier AHOY Comics sale "Guitars Vs. Rayguns" or my current hit "The Picture Of Amontillado" will see print, but I'll let you know when I know.
Meanwhile, I'm going to keep working on more short stories. I have a first draft completed for one, another about half done, and two others that are completely done, but which I think may not be quite right for AHOY. Oh, and there's also the one AHOY passed on this year. I have a number of other ideas, and I'll be pursuing some of those.
While lying...er, fiction obviously pays, I'm also waiting for word on the next step for my proposed nonfiction book The Greatest Record Ever Made. A lot of people helped me hone my pitch for that, and I hope those efforts will lead to something. Getting paid for writing. It's been a while, but I remember the feeling. Still feels good.
