Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post is another chapter from my long-threatened book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1), this time spotlighting "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" by the Smithereens.
Hey, that long-threatened book? It ain't dead yet. No, really! Its path to booksellers remains uncertain and (at best) under construction, but a publisher of my acquaintance is currently giving it a courtesy consideration. This publisher is in the process of prepping release of another book I wrote--details on that book coming soon--and is, so far, the only party in the world who has had access to the completed GREM! manuscript. No guarantee that consideration will manifest in publication, but here's hopin'. However, it's worth noting that I received an email from the publisher this week, mostly updating status for my other book, but including a reference to the GREM! manuscript as "such great material."
That's encouraging, right? Your collective well wishes are welcome and appreciated.
The book's Smithereens chapter is the single most-viewed piece I've ever posted on my blog. And it's part of a larger collection of personal and musical celebration I want to bring to you in book form. An infinite number of tracks can each be THE greatest record ever made, as long as they take turns. The Smithereens get their turn in the latest Boppin' Pop-A-Looza.
