POP-A-LOOZA: Gerber Music

Each week, the pop culture website Pop-A-Looza shares some posts from my vast 'n' captivating Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) archives. The latest shared post is my look back at a fondly-remembered Central New York record and music store, Gerber Music.

This is the first of two Gerber Music reminiscences that Pop-A-Looza will run this week, with the second planned for Friday. Given how much I've enjoyed digging through the bins over the years, it may be a little surprising that I've only gotten around to specific celebrations of two record stores, Gerber Music and Brockport's Main Street Records. My own star-crossed stint in record retail is detailed as part of my '80s memoir The Road To GOLDMINE (which is one of my very favorite pieces), but I may yet dive into memories of Record Revolution in Cleveland Heights and Desert Shore Records in Syracuse. Some day!

(Hey, speaking of Desert Shore Records: I just bought a CD through Discogs, and the vendor turned out to be listed as "Desertshore Records." It was Alan Braun, the original owner of Syracuse's Desert Shore when I first started shopping there in the '70s. Looks like Alan decided Californy was the place he ougtta be, and I'm delighted I had this opportunity to make another purchase from Desert Shore.)

But today's all about Gerber Music. That's the subject of the latest Boppin' Pop-A-Looza.
