This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1203

This week's edition of The Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet kicks off with "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett. It was the father-daughter dance at my daughter Meghan's wedding just over a week ago. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my little girl is no longer named Cafarelli. But I'll get there. It is a great thing, and the old saw is true: I've gained a son. Austin has already been a part of our family for years and years, sure, but now it's official. And cool!

I know I'm prone to hyperbole--I guess that should be expected from someone who keeps using phrases like The Greatest Record Ever Made!--but I do believe Meghan and Austin's wedding was the happiest night of my life. A palpable sense of joy was evident on their faces and in every move they made. That giddy thrill is infectious. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my daughter happy. Being able to share that happiness with family and friends created a wonderful evening I will never forget, a memory that will always make me smile.

Memories can help sustain us. During the reception, I cast my gaze upward, eyes open, and sent a blessing skyward, to all loved ones no longer with us. But...they were with us. They always are. That's the power of memory. That's the power of love.

Another memory: this week will mark the 45th anniversary of when Brenda and I first met. We fell in love pretty damned quickly, and we have remained together ever since. We raised a daughter, a daughter who makes us prouder and prouder every day of every year.

I don't really care if you think I'm strange. I ain't gonna change

Joan Jett had it exactly right. It's a lesson Brenda and I have worked to model for Meghan: Be who you are. Be the you that you wanna be, the you that fulfills your dreams. If it suits you, find someone to share your dreams.

She has, and she did. Congratulations, Meghan and Austin. We love you both.

We DO give a damn about that.
