MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN! Another small update on the FLASHCUBES TRIBUTE ALBUM

Work continues on the forthcoming various-artists tribute album Make Something Happen! A Tribute To A DIY Power Pop Band Called THE FLASHCUBES. First, let's review what we've established so far:

Make Something Happen! A Tribute To A DIY Power Pop Band Called THE FLASHCUBES is due for release in September from the mighty Big Stir Records label. It will consist of 21 covers of songs written by members of the Flashcubes, plus three brand-new recordings by the Flashcubes themselves. I have wanted someone to put together a Flashcubes tribute album since the dawn of ever. That wish finally prompted us to step up and make something happen ourselves awready.

Since our last update, scheduling issues have forced us to part with two fantastic artists who had previously been confirmed participants, which bums us out but is also inevitable when trying to coordinate a project like this. The good news is that we've already managed to confirm some other acts, and we've been able to shift some pending artist-song choice match-ups from pencil to ink. As of our last update a month ago, we had five spots that were deemed tentative. Now, even with the loss of two acts, we have only two spots I consider tentative, and I have a good feeling that both of those will firm up soon.

I'm still not quite ready to reveal the names of most of the artists who have committed. Soon. Very soon. Here's the planned track sequence as of now.

Newly announced today is Hamell On Trial's unique version of "Got No Mind." This joins the previously-announced tracks by sparkle*jets u.k. ("Make Something Happen"), Chris von Sneidern ("No Promise"), the Kennedys ("Walking Through The Park"), Pop Co-Op ("Wait Til Next Week"), the SpongeTones ("Nothing Really Matters When You're Young"), and the first of the three new Flashcubes tracks ("Reminisce").

On Thursday, I heard [REDACTED]'s take on "Gone Too Far," and I was impressed by how the band managed to imbue the song with such a '60s Pebbles vibe, sounding almost like a lost track by a forgotten band who were together just long enough in 1966 to record one obscure killer 45 before the lead singer was drafted and sent to Vietnam. I made up all of that phony back story on the spot, but I swear to Greg Shaw, that's what it sounds like. I'm enthused, and I can't wait for you to hear it.

Man, I can't wait for you to hear all of it. Hit the bright lights. We are indeed making something happen.
